Necrochasm is the Exotic Auto Rifle associated with Crota’s End. Unlike many raid exotics, Necrochasm is not obtained as a random drop. Instead, players earn the weapon through a questline that progresses throughout the raid.
Completing Crota’s End, collecting Essence of the Oversoul, and upgrading the weapon through several stages eventually unlocks Necrochasm.
The quest begins with Husk of the Pit.
Players who complete Crota, Son of Oryx for the first time are awarded the weapon and can begin working toward its upgrades.
After obtaining Husk of the Pit, continue using the weapon and completing its objectives until it can be upgraded into Eidolon Ally.
This serves as the intermediate step before obtaining Necrochasm.
Essence of the Oversoul is earned from Crota’s End encounter completions and various raid triumphs.
The amount earned varies depending on the activity completed.
Players can continue collecting Essence over multiple raid clears until they have accumulated the required amount.
Once enough Essence of the Oversoul has been collected, players can complete the final upgrade and transform Eidolon Ally into Necrochasm.

Because many triumphs reward large amounts of Essence, players pursuing the Swordbearer title often make substantial progress toward Necrochasm naturally.
After obtaining Necrochasm, players can begin working toward the catalyst.
Unlike the Exotic itself, the catalyst requires completing a hidden raid objective.
Throughout Crota’s End, players must activate a sequence of hidden plates while progressing through the raid.
These plates are located in multiple sections of the raid and must be completed during a single run.
Each activation progresses the catalyst puzzle and unlocks the next step.
Because several activations occur during normal raid progression, players should pay close attention whenever a catalyst notice appears within the raid guide.
After activating every required plate, a special chest becomes available later in the raid.
Opening this chest awards the Necrochasm catalyst to all eligible players who already own Necrochasm.
Players who do not yet own Necrochasm can still complete the puzzle, but the catalyst cannot be claimed until the Exotic weapon has been unlocked.
Once obtained and completed, the Necrochasm catalyst grants Desperation.
After a precision kill or a kill caused by Cursed Thrall explosions, Desperation significantly increases the weapon’s rate of fire.
This effect synergizes perfectly with Necrochasm’s Exotic perk and dramatically increases its effectiveness against groups of enemies.
After obtaining the catalyst, defeat enemies using Necrochasm until the catalyst progress reaches completion.
Once finished, the catalyst becomes permanently active and the weapon gains access to its full functionality.
