The Moon is one of humanity’s oldest colonies and one of the most recognizable destinations in Destiny 2. Once home to thriving Golden Age settlements, scientific facilities, and the vast Lunar colonies of the Clovis Bray Corporation, it was abandoned following the Collapse after the discovery of a massive Hive presence beneath its surface. Today, the Moon stands as a war-torn battlefield where ancient fortresses, forgotten research facilities, and haunting remnants of humanity’s past exist alongside some of the Hive’s most powerful strongholds.

Beneath the Moon’s scarred surface lies an enormous network of catacombs and temples built by the Hive over centuries. Led by the descendants of Crota and later by Hashladûn and the Hidden Swarm, the Hive transformed the Moon into one of their greatest bastions within the Sol System. Their influence extends through nearly every region, from the towering Scarlet Keep overlooking the lunar landscape to the depths of the Hellmouth, where countless Guardians have fallen in battles against the Hive’s endless armies.

The Moon also became the center of one of Destiny’s most significant discoveries when the buried Pyramid ship awakened beneath its surface. Its arrival introduced Guardians to the true influence of the Witness and the Darkness, unleashing Nightmares—manifestations of fear and memory that took the forms of fallen allies and defeated enemies alike. These events marked a turning point in Destiny’s story, fundamentally changing humanity’s understanding of the conflict between the Light and the Darkness while setting the stage for many of the events that followed.
